Rotational grazing is one of the most important techniques used on Polyface Farm. It involves frequently moving animals to small pasture sections, allowing the grass time to regenerate and the soil to gain natural fertilizer in the ideal amount.
Animals do not overgraze plants, grass grows faster, and the soil becomes more permeable and rich in organic matter. The result? Less erosion, more life in the soil, and greater pasture productivity. This is a method that Salatin considers to be the "most powerful tool for landscape restoration that humanity has."
